Finding a Voice Teacher

Hey guys! We have our first FAN QUESTION! Haley Keim from Pleasant Hill, CA writes:

"Hi Mikey and Rebecca! I am a huge fan of your work AND of Betty Buckley. I just moved to LA and am looking for a voice teacher. Any suggestions?"

Hi Haley.

Let's get one thing straight: Not every voice teacher will be the right fit for YOU! Finding a voice teacher is like getting your custom fit unitard once you are cast in the national tour of CATS (aka a really awesome musical). Everyone else's unitards look awesome and make them look like, really cool, but if you try and put on someone else's unitard you will not look really cool. In fact, you will probably look fat and ugly, and we all know that looks and appearance are the most important thing in this business. Just like wearing someone else's onsie, a particular voice teacher may be great for your friend, but make you feel really uncomfortable and you won't stretch and grow in the way you could and want to; physically and emotionally.

So, we suggest that you shop around! Voice lessons are expensive, but it's worth it to find the right teacher. If you really suck, chances are you will need to be with a more expensive voice teacher seeing as you will need a really experienced teacher to help you. The more money you spend, the more you will improve.

We recommend you take from Miranda Sings. Not only is she a singing sensation herself and does concerts around the world, but she has developed her own unique vocal technique that is AMAZING! We do her warm ups in the shower at least once, maybe twice a day. Check out her FREE voice lesson on Youtube and she if she's the right fit for you (she probably is because she is a REAL professional)

This advice is great, but all of y'alls questions SUCK! Think of some more creative ones, KAY? It will make our jobs way more fun and you will get more out of it so everyone wins, got it? :)

Also, for those of you who don't know, our favorite performer EVER Doug Carpenter is performing in Miss Saigon at The Moonlight Ampitheatre in San Diego for the next few weeks, so check it out if you want to see some REAL LIVE THEATRE. He also has very nice biceps.

You're welcome,

Mikey and Rebecca
